The Edinburgh Quartet returns to the beautiful St Cecilia’s Hall for the opening concert of our new six-part lunchtime series, Schubert: A Journey Through His String Quartets.
Across the season, we’ll follow Schubert from the remarkable music of his teenage years to the great masterpieces of his final years.
For our first concert, we begin with one of Haydn’s last quartets, a pinnacle of the Classical tradition, before turning to the 18-year-old Schubert, already finding the dramatic intensity and lyrical melodic writing that would come to define him.
Programme:
Haydn – String Quartet in F major, Op. 77 No. 2
Schubert – String Quartet in G minor, D.173
Schubert – String Quartet in G minor, D.173
