This is a large chamber organ which has a series of extra notes in each octave. These allow the player to choose notes that were not normally available on the keyboard. The levers can be seen on either side of the keyboard. Although the extra pipes allowed the musician to play in a wider range of keys they are difficult to use in practice without the help of an assistant.

The bellows behind the keyboard show that this is a type of organ, yet it has no pipes. Instead, this instrumen produces sound using small metal reeds which are inside the keyboard. When the bellows are pumped, air flows across the reeds causing them to vibrate. The sound is distinctive, almost brash. This instrument is a type of portable organ known as a regal, and specifically a “bible regal”.
